Full title and description
GOST R 55210-2012 — Insulation coordination for equipment within low-voltage systems. Part 2-1: Application guide. Explanation of the application of the IEC 60664 series; dimensioning examples and dielectric testing. (Russian title: ГОСТ Р 55210-2012 — Координация изоляции для оборудования в низковольтных системах. Часть 2-1. Руководство по применению серии стандартов IEC 60664. Примеры применения типов изоляции и испытания электроизоляционных свойств).
Abstract
This national standard (technical report) reproduces and adapts the content of IEC/TR 60664-2-1:2011 for use in the Russian Federation. It provides practical guidance for applying the IEC 60664 series to low-voltage equipment, including principles for coordination of insulation, selection of clearance and creepage distances, impulse withstand and dielectric testing examples, and explanatory appendices. The document is intended to help technical committees, manufacturers and testing bodies establish insulation-related requirements and tests.
General information
- Status: Introduced / active (first introduced as a national standard).
- Publication date: Approved 15 November 2012; date of introduction (effective date) 1 January 2014.
- Publisher: Published for distribution in Russia (published edition: Стандартинформ, 2014).
- ICS / categories: ICS 29.080.30 (Electrical insulating materials and insulation coordination for low-voltage equipment).
- Edition / version: Edition 1 — GOST R 55210-2012 (adoption of IEC/TR 60664-2-1:2011).
- Number of pages: Approximately 57 pages (public distributions list 57–58 pages depending on layout).
Key registry and bibliographic entries confirm approval by the Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology (Rosstandart) in November 2012 and introduction on 1 January 2014; publisher information and page count vary slightly between distributors.
Scope
The standard is a practical application guide for the IEC 60664 series as applied to equipment within low-voltage systems. It addresses methods for assigning insulation coordination values (rated insulation voltage, rated impulse withstand voltages), choosing overvoltage categories, assigning pollution degrees, determining minimum clearance and creepage distances, and performing dielectric and impulse tests. It includes explanatory annexes and national notes to assist technical committees and manufacturers in applying international requirements in the Russian context.
Key topics and requirements
- Principles of insulation coordination for low-voltage equipment (alignment with IEC 60664-1 principles).
- Selection and assignment of impulse withstand voltages and rated insulation voltages for equipment parts.
- Determination of minimum clearance (air) and creepage (solid) distances by voltage, pollution degree and overvoltage category.
- Examples of dimensioning (worked examples) for common equipment cases and configurations.
- Requirements and procedures for dielectric and impulse testing (routine and type tests) relevant to insulation coordination.
- National annexes and mapping of referenced international standards to corresponding Russian national standards.
These elements form the practical content used to derive insulation-related requirements for product standards and test programmes.
Typical use and users
Primary users are technical committees, standards developers, electrical equipment designers, conformity assessment bodies and test laboratories, safety and compliance engineers, and manufacturers of low-voltage electrical equipment who need to specify or verify insulation clearances, creepage, impulse withstand capabilities and dielectric testing. Regulators and certification bodies also use the document when adopting or referencing insulation coordination practices.
Related standards
This standard is the national adoption of IEC/TR 60664-2-1:2011 and is used together with the foundational IEC 60664 series (nationally adopted as ГОСТ Р МЭК 60664.x). It references other national and international documents such as ГОСТ Р МЭК 60664-1 (principles, requirements and tests), ГОСТ Р МЭК 61140 (protection against electric shock), ГОСТ Р МЭК 60085 (thermal classification of insulating materials) and test standards for tracking and dielectric testing.

FAQ
Q: What is this standard?
A: GOST R 55210-2012 is the Russian national adoption of IEC/TR 60664-2-1:2011 — an application guide on insulation coordination for equipment within low-voltage systems, providing explanations, dimensioning examples and guidance on dielectric testing.
Q: What does it cover?
A: It covers practical application of the IEC 60664 series: determining rated insulation voltages and impulse withstand voltages, selecting pollution degrees and overvoltage categories, specifying minimum clearance and creepage distances, and procedures/examples for dielectric and impulse tests. It also includes annexes with national notes and mappings to Russian standards.
Q: Who typically uses it?
A: Standards writers (technical committees), equipment manufacturers and designers, test laboratories, conformity assessment and certification bodies, and safety/compliance engineers working with low-voltage electrical equipment.
Q: Is it current or superseded?
A: The document was introduced as a national standard in 2014 after approval in November 2012. To confirm current status (active, amended or withdrawn) consult the national standards registry or the issuing body; distributor entries and national registries list it as introduced/active.
Q: Is it part of a series?
A: Yes — it is Part 2-1 in the insulation coordination family and complements Part 1 (principles, requirements and tests) and other parts of the IEC 60664 series; it is intended to be used alongside ГОСТ Р МЭК 60664-1 and related parts.
Q: What are the key keywords?
A: Insulation coordination; clearance; creepage; dielectric testing; impulse withstand; pollution degree; overvoltage category; IEC 60664; low-voltage equipment.
